There are many definitions of faith, and even more quotes on the subject, but Hebrews 11:1 is one of the best out there.
"Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen." (HCSB)
"Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see." (NLT)
"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." (ESV)

Is my life full of faith: Assurance of, conviction of, confidence in, and proof of the un-seeable and sometimes un-understandable things in which I believe?

The last two or three years have taught me a lot about living by faith - being assured that God has a plan for my life and for my family, convicted that He is not the author of confusion, confident that He is doing a work in my life, and being given proof time and time again that He can work all things for good.

I don't know how people with a smooth-sailing life can have strong faith.  I'm not saying that they don't, I just don't have much experience with that. It seems that a life that gets filled with faith gets that way because of the challenges and circumstances that can only be overcome because of faith.

Faith is boldness when it is easier to be timid.
Faith is forgiveness when it is easier to be bitter.
Faith is trusting when it is easier to control.

Without faith, can life be JOYfull, THANKfull, MERCYfull, GRACEfull, HOPEfull, WONDERFULL, PRAYERfull, WORSHIPfull, and BEAUTYfull?

I think faith enables us to have the other things in life that make us full.

  1. True, Amanda. It is only through obstacles that our faith becomes tested. It could either grow or it could be the other way around. I'm glad yours keeps growing despite life's setbacks and mishaps. God bless! :-)

  2. Amen, Amanda! My goodness you and I think alike a lot from what I've read on your blog and what has been happening concurrently with my life and faith and writings! I feel so blessed to be getting to know the girls in my "blogger community" better like yourself! :)

I loved all of this post, but this part really sticks out to me and is so true:

"Faith is boldness when it is easier to be timid.
Faith is forgiveness when it is easier to be bitter.
Faith is trusting when it is easier to control."

    Thanks! -- Rachel

  3. wow. i've been praying for more faith lately... i hadn't realized i'd been inadvertently praying for more trials--but it's true. thank you so much for helping me understand. love to you. xo

  4. I like the NLT version the best...some versions just make more of an impact! I think the faith-building journey looks very different for each individual. I know I have looked at some people's lives and wonder if they've ever faced a challenge. However, challenges in this world come in all shapes and sizes, and we all--no matter what the perceived obstacle--have to make the choice between faith and the alternative. Whether it is cancer, our finances, a relationship, a job situation, our children...we either live in faith or we live in the further obstacles that result from a lack of faith. And our faith isn't only for us...the way we handle the pain and suffering of this world--no matter what that may be for each individual--speaks volumes to others about the FULL life that Christ offers.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with me.
