the dance

each night this week
I have begun anticipating
the dance

as my head touches the pillow
I wait, holding my breath
until the symphony begins

tiny flutters bring forth
a lump of joy in my throat
and I swallow and sigh with relief

such a brief reminder -
life is still there -
and I cling to this hope

and whisper, "thank You,"
repeated with each breath
until gratitude overpowers the fear

  5. This is lovely. Yes. Sometimes we need gratitude to overpower our fears. I remember well those days of waiting, hoping, praying. May you and your little one rest safe in His hands, today.
